1) How is Excessive Sweating treated without any surgery?
BTA – Botulinum Toxin A (Botox® or Dysport®) injection is the treatment of choice for treating excessive sweating non-surgically. It is a safe and effective treatment. Other treatment options include topical or oral medication. Most topical agents have limited effectiveness, and cause staining and skin irritation. Oral medications are not preferred due to bad side effects.
2) Will I stop sweating completely after the treatment?
No. Excessive sweating is essentially due to over activity of the nervous system that control sweat gland. BTA merely ‘calms’ the nerves, thus the normal function of sweat glands is not affected.
3) Who is the best candidate for this treatment?
Anyone who suffer from excessive sweating which leads to:
– Social embarrassment
– Severe body malodour
– Occupational disability
4) How long does the result last?
The result can last between 4-12 months, depends on the treatment site, severity of the condition, and dosage of BTA used. Booster dose can be given at various intervals to maintain long lasting results.
5) Are there any side effects?
There might be some minor weakness at treated site which will resolve after 2 to 5 weeks.
