The short answer: the Laser & Health Academy (LA&HA) Malaysia Training Center opened to provide structured education for Fotona users and medical practitioners. Dr. Lucas Chia serves as its main lecturer, supported by experienced doctors and international LA&HA educators.

This is not simply a room with laser devices. It is a professional learning environment built around the knowledge behind laser medicine: how energy interacts with tissue, how patient suitability is assessed, how protocols are planned, and where responsible treatment limits begin.

Understanding LA&HA

What is the Laser & Health Academy?

The Laser & Health Academy, commonly known as LA&HA, is an international organisation focused on advancing medical, scientific and technical knowledge in laser medicine. Its training centres give doctors and Fotona practitioners access to structured theory, clinical discussion, live demonstrations and hands-on education.

Fotona’s official opening announcement states that the Malaysia center was modelled after the LA&HA Training Center in Ljubljana, Slovenia, with a curriculum designed to strengthen knowledge, collaboration and clinical excellence.

Why the distinction matters Owning advanced technology and understanding how to use it responsibly are not the same thing. Training helps practitioners connect technical capability with patient selection, protocol logic and safe clinical judgement.
Inside the curriculum

How knowledge moves from theory to practice

01

Clinical theory

Understanding laser wavelengths, tissue response, treatment indications and essential safety considerations.

02

Live demonstrations

Experienced lecturers demonstrate clinical reasoning, treatment sequencing and practical technique in real time.

03

Hands-on learning

Structured workshops help practitioners translate technical knowledge into careful clinical application.

04

Case discussion

Doctors explore why similar-looking concerns may require different assessment and treatment strategies.

The Kulai opening

Dr. Lucas Chia’s role in Fotona education

Fotona identifies Dr. Lucas Chia as the main lecturer at the Malaysia Training Center, as well as a Fotona Ambassador and LA&HA International Expert Lecturer. The official opening report notes that his cooperation with LA&HA began in 2017 and has included presentations at LA&HA Symposia and Asia-Pacific meetings.

His publicly documented research and protocol-development topics include eye bags and dark circles, laser toning and FracRevive®. The same report stated that, at the time of opening, the IDO’S Clinic and WeCoMed Clinic network comprised 12 clinics with 25 Fotona lasers.

Evidence note: the clinic-network and device figures are a dated historical record from Fotona’s July 2024 opening report, not a permanently fixed current count.

For patients

What does this mean for your care?

The training center is primarily an education facility for practitioners. It does not guarantee any individual treatment result. Diagnosis, suitability, protocol design, aftercare and personal response still matter.

Which system or treatment mode is being considered, and why?
